In 2014 Dubai unveiled its strategy become one of the smartest cities in the world.

The Dubai: a new paradigm for smart cities report by KPMG provides insight into Dubai’s smart city project and draws on examples from Dubai and other global smart city projects.

Dubai’s smart city initiatives aim to improve the quality of life of its people by “embracing innovation, and making Dubai more efficient, seamless, safe and delivering an enriched city experience through smart technology”.

The Dubai smart city project aims to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve targets in six focus areas: smart life, smart transportation, smart society, smart economy, smart governance and smart environment.

Dubai’s Smart City Strategy identifies 100 smart initiatives across transport, communications, infrastructure, electricity, economic services, urban planning, and details plans for 1,000 government services to be transformed into “smart services” by 2017.

“Our goal is for the entire city’s services and facilities to be available on smartphones. We want to provide a better quality of life for all,”His Highness Shaikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
