The UK Information Commissioner has released a new Surveillance Camera Code of Practice for England and Wales.
Released in June 2013, the Code of Practice provides good practice guidance for operators of CCTV and other surveillance camera systems which view or record images of individuals and information relating to individuals such as vehicle registration.
The Code details twelve guiding principles, which aim to provide a balance “between protecting the public and upholding civil liberties”.
The UK has a Surveillance Camera Commissioner to encourage compliance, oversee the operation of and provide advice on the Code.
